Leadership Talk By Tun Mahathir

Dear SDCians..

Recently I have attended a talk on "Leadership" by Tun Mahathir at IOI Putrajaya Marriot, which was organised by the Higher Education Ministry. As one of the Asia's most influence leader, I personally believed he has the utmost qualification in enlightening us on the issue of leadership. Here are the excerpt from his speech and Q&A session:

What are the qualities of a leader?

1. Willingness to push yourself further


2. Better than the rest in a certain way


3. Willing to take risk


4. Knowledgable (At least on objective of the group)


5. Has the art of convincing others


6. Willing to make decision


7. Debate within his own mind

How should leader constuct strategies?

1. Plan the best approach to the problem


2. Know what to do and how to do


3. Consultation is necessary

How do we need to prepare for future?

1. Understand the growth, i.e: KLIA


2. Studying the trend and the future technology

Why we should look into Far East?

1. Korea and Japan learn, set up, manage and eksport their products.


2. Malaysia did not copy this strategies


3. Malaysia have to produce things ourself in order to survive in future. E.g. Proton

Conclusion

• Leadership leads to choice of strategy that cater the needs of the future !!!
